November in CPR Month

Why we’re raising awareness this November

November is widely recognized across Canada as CPR Month. For the last two years, St. John Ambulance has passionately promoted the importance of CPR, AED’s and First Aid training during this important month. It is proven that through the application of an AED and CPR, we can improve the odds of survival from cardiac arrest by 75%.

As a non-profit, St. John Ambulance is committed to improving the quality of life for Canadians and we are aware of the importance of accessing life-saving technology when it’s needed most. During cardiac emergencies, locating the nearest AED may be the difference between life or death. Public access to these AED’s has become essential in saving a person’s life.

St. John Ambulance has innovated the way the public accesses AED information. In 2016, we launched the Save a Life app which allows Canadians to register the location of their AED’s via a free app for smartphones, it also allows others to view that geo-location of the AED using Google Maps. With this new progressive technology, finding the nearest AED in times of emergency has never been easier for the public.

This November, St. John Ambulance will be running the Save a Life Selfie contest to raise awareness on the importance of AED’s and inform the public on how they can locate AED’s via the Save a Life app. We encourage the public to download the free app, register any existing AED’s and take a photo with the device and post it to our Facebook page. We will review all the selfie submissions at the end of the month, and award the contest winner a Phillips AED valued at $1,600.

We encourage all Canadians to enter the contest and help us build the largest AED database in the country. Together we can place defibrillators in the hands of those who need it the most.

To download the Save a Life app visit the App Store or Google Play and help us build Canada’s largest AED database.
